Khwabgah in Fatehpur Sikri
The Fatehpur Sikri fort known for its beautiful and intriguing Mughal architecture and buildings, encompasses one more striking complex known as the Khwabgah complex. This structure is situated at the extreme right over looking the ornamental pool, Anup Talao. It is said that from the top of this two storey complex one can be a witness to the other monumental structures like Panch Mahal at the extreme left and Diwan-i-Aam in the background right of the centre built beautifully during the reign of emperor Akbar. This beautifully designed edifice was considered as the most important structure in the imperial compound as it was solitarily meant for Akbar’s private use.
With separate rooms constructed in Khwabgah complex for private meeting of Akbar with his noble men along with his personal library and a sleeping chamber, this huge and intricately designed structure was considered of vital importance. Khilwatkada-i-Khas, known as the sleeping chamber of Akbar is one of the most worth mentioning aspect of the Khwabgah complex. This chamber is located on the first floor of the complex and is about 4.5m.sq. in dimension. Surrounded by a pillared porch sheltered with sloping stone roof gives this chamber a remarkable look. It features a distinctive ventilating duct near his bed and traces of the linking passage directly to the royal Harem and Panch Mahal can still be found. This Khwabgah complex was no doubt one of the most fascinating and striking structures of the Imperial fort.
